About Our Church

We are a United Methodist congregation located in the beautiful Susquehanna Valley, in the City of Sunbury, Pennsylvania where the north & west branches of the Susquehanna River converge.

The church has been at the corner of 2nd & Arch Streets since the 1800’s and was known as St. John’s Methodist Episcopal until 1968 when the Methodist denomination merged with The Evangelical United Brethren and it became known as St. John’s United Methodist Church. 

More recently, after numerous conversations, meetings, and votes with the Albright United Methodist congregation at 5th & Chestnut Streets, Sunbury, it was decided that Albright would close their building and both congregations would worship together in the St. John’s building beginning on January 2, 2011. 

Initially, there were many challenges and obstacles, but in the end, two small, dwindling congregations came together…stronger. A new name was chosen and together they took a leap of faith and formed a new body of believers, now known as Faith United Methodist Church.
